I decided to start creating my own LARP universe to accompany a narrative studying the life of a real world LARPer. Mainly because if i'm doing the journalistic illustrator thing so i need a creative outlet, but they also compliment each other pretty well. So this is the Mappa Mundi above here, and below is my plan for my version, it's not as similar as I had first intended, but i like how it turned out, i also intend to do more maps, better thought out and with hidden easter eggs and codes and more labels detailing the universe.

Some more LARP work. That man is this is sort of based on Skip the lead character/person in the fantastic documentary, "Darkon". This is a coat of arms that juxtaposes the real and fantasy world, something I may well revisit. I really want to draw an evil character's coat of arms, which i could also base on Kenyon, another LARPer featured in "Darkon". Anyway here are some coat of arms i found googling, they're great:

Not entirely pleased with any of these, apart from the b&w symbols i think they could work in multiple forms (badges, t-shirts, posters etc). I'm not sure why I always go all gruesome when I'm stuck for ideas, but I'm not entirely sure that gore is completely inkeeping with the sensibilities of all LARPers... probably some of them though, need to have an in-depth chat with a LARPer at some point.

Basically the same idea as ARCANE BRILLIANCE (which i drew a few weeks ago) but more focus on the mundane than the fantastic. I like how the colours turned out

Another fantasy piece related to the LARP project (FMP). I like the simplicity of this, trying to be more illustrator-y. I read some of the YCN annual 2010 the other day in the waiting area for an interview at Brighton university and some of the stuff in there is really great. Especially the work of Andy J Miller and Scott Balmer really appealed to me.

ARCANE BRILLIANCE

this piece is for final major project "LARPing". This is more WoW (world of warcraft) than it is LARP, but having watched the wicked documentary MONSTER CAMP (trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tobGvjez9x0 ) i know that the two go hand in hand.

I really did this piece just to see where I could go from here, this image is sort of my immediate reaction to the task and works as a good starting point. Already I can see a ton of things i need to improve upon. It's also my attempt at telling a story with a single image, I'd like to simplify it a bit for starters. Anyway here are the inks aswell:

Some character sketches and dinosaur sketches for a comic I'm planning at the moment. It's going to be a dinosaur/adventure/mystery type thing. Sort of "Famous Five" but with dinosaurs and more up to date. This is just a side project. I am now, and have been, doing a lot of research into LARP (live action role play) for my Final Major Project (FMP) for college. Also been looking at D&D and some of the pretty insane art that stems from that (click for bigger) :
